Vancouver’s Best October Events for Visitors (and Locals, Too)

Activities

If you’re heading to Vancouver in October, you’re in for more than just beautiful foliage. This is a month packed with seasonal festivals, cultural events, and just the right amount of spooky fun. From family-friendly pumpkin patches to lively Diwali celebrations, there’s something happening every weekend that will make your visit even more memorable.

Oktoberfest Events

Several local breweries and restaurants host Oktoberfest events in early October. Bells and Whistles, CRAFT Beer Market, and Parallel 49 Brewing often throw themed nights complete with schnitzel, steins, and oompah bands.

We also just found out that White Rock’s flagship brewery will be running an Oktoberfest event from September 20 to October 5 this year, so be sure to stop in at 3 Dogs Brewing for a taste of Germany.

While you’re out in White Rock, stop in at The Beer Shack, which will be hosting its own Oktoberfest event at the same time.

Canyon Frights at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park

Capilano’s fall transformation is the perfect mix of spooky and stunning. The park’s Canyon Frights event brings Halloween to the treetops with glowing jack-o’-lanterns, creepy decorations, and costumed guides. It’s ideal for kids, but adults will love the photo ops and forest ambience. Don’t forget to try the hot apple cider and admire the views from the Cliffwalk.

Diwali Fest

Vancouver’s multicultural roots shine bright during Diwali Fest. This annual celebration of light features live music, dance performances, food vendors, and traditional art displays across the city. Check out the festivities at the Roundhouse Community Centre in Yaletown, or catch a Bollywood dance class in South Vancouver. It’s one of the city’s most joyful and colourful events of the year.

Pumpkin Patch Season at Local Farms

Families visiting Vancouver in October will love the many nearby pumpkin patches. Southlands Heritage Farm is an easy option within city limits, while Maan Farms in Abbotsford goes big with a pumpkin cannon, corn maze, and even a haunted experience at night. Don’t miss the apple cider doughnuts.

Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF)

Running until mid-October, VIFF brings hundreds of films to local theatres and draws filmmakers from around the world. Whether you're into thought-provoking documentaries or foreign dramas, there's likely a screening that fits your interests.

Venues like the Vancouver Playhouse and the Rio Theatre offer a great way to see the city’s indie cinema scene up close.

Fright Nights at Playland

Older kids and thrill-seekers won’t want to miss Fright Nights at Playland. The amusement park transforms into a haunted horror zone with multiple haunted houses, live shows, and rides running well into the night. It’s one of the most talked-about Halloween events in BC and sells out fast, so book ahead if you’re planning to scream.

October brings out Vancouver’s most festive side, with events that let you experience the city’s nature, culture, and community spirit all in one trip. Whether you’re travelling solo, as a couple, or with kids in tow, this is a month packed with opportunities to explore, indulge, and enjoy the season.
